RETHINK NIGERIA VISITS THE PDP NATIONAL YOUTH LEADER

 rethink
Following the recent de-Registration of all youth groups affiliated to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), a new group of young intellectuals under the aegis of – Rethink Nigeria is organizing itself to help re-invigorate the vision of the party as it affects the Nigerian youth.
The group whose membership model is based on the principle of volunteerism, paid a courtesy visit to the National Youth Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Hon. Abdullahi Maibasira on Monday 17th of February 2014. The Rethink Nigeria group expressed its happiness with the new leadership direction that the National Youth Leader was giving to the youths of the party.
According to the Convening Volunteer of the group Ohimai Godwin Amaize, “our major aim is to harness the mental strength of the Nigerian youth and use it as a weapon of socio-political re-engineering, political engagement and participation.” He also noted that Rethink Nigeria would help project and showcase the very best of PDP as it concerns young people in politics and governance. Citing the example of the youngest Minister in the Federal Executive Council, Dr. Nurudeen Mohammed, the youngest Speaker of a State House of Assembly in Nigeria, Inuwa Garba of Gombe State among others, he said that the PDP, more than any other political party in Nigeria has given more opportunities in politics and public service to young Nigerians.
On his part, the Deputy Convening Volunteer of Rethink Nigeria, Umar Shehu observed that “It is a historic opportunity in our nation’s history that we have a youth about the age of 30 chosen as National Youth Leader of the ruling party.” He then urged the Nigerian youth to leverage on this development as an opportunity to further participate and engage the political system. He assured the National Youth Leader that Rethink Nigeria would work closely with his office to ensure that the Nigerian youth feels the impact of true youth leadership in the PDP.
Volunteer Secretary of the group, Tony Ehilebo, noted with worry, the increasing representation of the Nigerian youth in crime, drugs and other social vices. “It is time we transform the mind of the Nigerian youth and unlock its creative potential”, he said.
In his response, the National Youth Leader of PDP commended the group for the initiative and assured them that his doors and that of the PDP will always be open to all well-meaning youth associations in Nigeria who genuinely seek to improve the situation of the Nigerian Youth through political engagement and participation. He also warned them against disunity and deviation from their core purpose and mandate, which he admires while agreeing that there is an urgent need to Rethink Nigeria through the eyes and minds of the Nigerian youth.
Other volunteer leaders of Rethink Nigeria present at the courtesy call include, Debie Mangut, Afegbochu Ugwi, Paschal Metuh, Sunny Okoro, Emmanuel Njoku and Uche Chuta.

COME BACK HOME NOW - JONATHAN CHARGES DECAMPEES

President-Goodluck-Jonathan1
President Goodluck Jonathan has charged all defectors from the PDP to return while they have the chance.

Jonathan said if the former members who defected to other parties returned within the period, they would be on equal pedestal with existing members and would enjoy the same privileges, otherwise, they would have to be on the queue.
Jonathan, who was obviously impressed by the turnout of defectors in Imo State, assured that there would be no discrimination against them in the PDP.
He said: “The message today is very clear and I believe some of my good friends are not here. We have opened the door for a few days. You join us these few days, the position you occupy is the position any other person will occupy. No discrimination.
“But if you don’t come and come later, you will queue behind your ward’s assistant chairman.
“So, the time to join us is now so that there will be nothing like discrimination in anything. The party is open for everybody. Equal rights and justice is guaranteed. We are a party that believes in justice and so, we must also believe in equal rights.
The president, who insisted that the occasion was not a campaign rally, said there will be no democracy in Nigeria without the PDP and extolled its qualities, which he said anyone wishing to join a party must consider.
“There will no democracy without PDP and the reasons are obvious. In terms of ideology, since we started the PDP, the name has not changed, identity has not changed, the logo has not changed, the motto has not changed, our slogan has not changed.
“It shows that the party still believes in what they are because we believe we are doing the right thing and there is no need for mutation.”

You must work hard, no automatic tickets – Mu’azu tells PDP members

National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Adamu Mu’azu has restated that there will be no automatic ticket for office holders in 2015.
He said this on Wednesday in Abuja when Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan of Delta led a delegation of the party’s stakeholders in the state on a courtesy call on him.
He decried a situation where some politicians claimed to be on ground because of their closeness to some persons in the party’s headquarters without getting acquainted with those at the grassroots.
“It will not work; the people are looking at you. Those of you, who will sit on the governor’s lap, or on my lap, will not succeed.
“You have to campaign, you have to tell the people what our party is doing,’’ Mu’azu said.
“We know our party has lost some grounds, we must assess ourselves, we must mark ourselves and we must be truthful to ourselves.
“We must be sincere to ourselves nationwide and find out what is wrong,’’ he said.
Mu’azu, however, maintained that with the absolute cooperation, collaboration and prayers of party members, PDP would regain its lost ground in record time.
He promised that the party, under his leadership would continue to strengthen and deepen democracy and the rule of law in the party.
Earlier, Chief Edwin Clark, a PDP chieftain, described the defection of some PDP members to the opposition as an uneventful exercise.
He expressed hope that those who recently defected to the opposition would return to the party`s fold soon.
“I know that where they have gone to, when the fire becomes hot there, they will come back to you to say can we come back. When they do, admit them,’’ Clark said.
Uduaghan said the visit was to congratulate Mu`azu on his emergence as the national chairman of the party, and to pledge the loyalty and support of the people of Delta to him.
He said the people of Delta would give total support to President Goodluck Jonathan, adding that PDP in Delta was “united, in charge and on ground’’.
This, he said, was so because the people of the state had seen reason to embrace the party.
The governor said that though the party had challenges in the past, the emergence of Mu`azu as its national chairman had made great impact on its rebuilding.
He also said that Delta was solidly behind President Goodluck Jonathan, and called on all Nigerians to continue to support him in spite of the challenges facing the country.
Uduaghan added that the state government had made impact with its three-point agenda in all aspects of the state economy.
He said that though the state was an oil producing state, it was looking beyond oil as major sustenance of its economy.
The state government, he said, had commenced diversification of its resources to other areas such as agriculture to realise its objective.
“We have adopted a programme called “Delta Beyond Oil’’. What this means is that we are using the little money we are getting from oil to develop all areas of the economy.
“This is so, so that even if the oil is not there tomorrow, the economy will still be bombing. We are concentrating on agriculture, culture and tourism and even solid minerals.’’
The governor also said that because most of the projects being embarked upon by the state government were long term project, the government concentrated on microcredit scheme to deal with immediate needs.
Uduaghan was accompanied on the visit by the state PDP stakeholders, House of Representatives members, local government chairmen and commissioners.

The National Youth Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Hon. Abdullahi Maibasira, has made known his intention to organise a football championship next year to further consolidate on the gains of President Goodluck Jonathan in the area of sports.
Maibasira disclosed this in his office in Abuja while addressing journalists where he called on Nigerian youth in particular and Nigerians in general to reflect on the unity and peace of the country.
