The National Executive Committee (NEC) of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has approved the election of an ex- Governor of Bauchi State, Adamu Mu’azu, as the new Chairman of the party.
The new Chairman was immediately sworn in at the NEC meeting, presided by the Deputy National Chairman of the PDP Uche Secondus.
Among
those who witnessed the event were President Goodluck Jonathan; Vice
President Namadi Sambo; Senate President David Mark; the Deputy of
Senate President Ike Ekweremadu and the Deputy Speaker of the House of
Representatives Mr. Emeka Ihedioha.
Some governors, members of the Board of Trustees and former national chairmen of the party, were also in attendance.
In his acceptance speech Mu’azu acknowledged that there were challenges facing the party.
He said the era of questionable primaries were over and that free and fair elections would only start with free and credible primaries.
“The beginning of credible, free and fair elections starts with credible, free and fair elections.“The PDP as the leading party, must therefore, lead the way for other parties to follow. We cannot and will not condone questionable primary elections,” he said.
